Thank you so much for signing up for the December Bread Share, the last one for 2015! This month certainly snuck up on me, even though it is my favorite month (I feel like I say this about almost every month of the year because they are all so special when they finally arrive!) This one is special in Germany because of all its traditions and celebrations. First there is St. Nicolaus on the 6th, this is the day Santa comes to the kids in Germany and brings a bag of treats filled with specialty chocolates, oranges, nuts and Lebkuchen. We eat baked apples filled with berry jam and chopped nuts for dessert and reflect on the good and the bad we did this past year. After that there is my birthday, which often brought the first day of snow for the year and the excitement of going sledding and building snowmen! I always wish for snow on my birthday. If it hasn't happened yet, it always is my wish when blowing out the birthday candles. After that there are a few more Advent Sundays to celebrate with Lebkuchen and the first samples of Christmas cookies, Christkindel Markets are set up in all the town squares and people are getting ready for the holidays. I love the decorations, the smell of cinnamon and cookies in the house and the anticipation. This year I am lucky enough to spend some of this time with my family and we will have a huge Christmas cookie production, visit some of our favorite Christkindel Markets, eat as many Pretzels as we can and enjoy spending time together. I can’t wait! Enjoy this special time, I am sure you have many traditions leading up to the holidays as well!
