Happy Winter Solstice! It’s that special time of year when our house smells like cinnamon and cloves and I think about all the traditions that I was fortunate to grow up with. I grew up in the same house as my grandparents (and great-grandma even!). My grandma was the one in charge of Christmas cookies for many years. She would bake enough cookies to last through early January. The special thing was that we really were not allowed to have any before Christmas eve. Sometimes she would let us have one that got a little too dark… but other than that the anticipation for the cookie platter was huge! Smelling them baking for weeks but not eating them was a real test in patience, that was always rewarded with the most incredible cookie platter brought up and shared with everyone by the candle lit Christmas tree. Do you ever feel when you have to wait for something with anticipation that it often is so much better and certainly a lot more special than the instant gratification we so often get these days? Time slows down when you have to wait and what ever it is you might be waiting for will carry a little extra magic. Time is magic, sourdough bread is a great example of that!
Enjoy the holidays and I hope you find some time to slow down and let time do it’s magic!
